oakville-newcomers-reportBetween 2001 and 2006 over 2,600 foreign born individuals have settled in the Town of Oakville. This represents 4.1% of the population, which is above the national average (3.5%) and below the provincial average (4.8%).
Most Oakville newcomers are from non-European countries, with over half from Asia and South America. The newcomers are younger and 85% have a post secondary education.
Using 2006 Statistic’s Canada Census data, this new report highlights Oakville’s growing diversity with details such as maps of newcomer clusters, places of birth, mother tongue and home language, income, education and labour force activity. The report provides background information for local agencies and community groups working with or planning services for newcomers.
