About Community Development Halton

Our Organization

Community Development Halton is a non-profit organization based in the Halton Region. The organization serves the community and promotes social wellbeing, community engagement, and overall regional development.  Community Development Halton works with nonprofit agencies, municipal and regional governments, and local grassroots organizations to build vibrant and inclusive communities where all people prosper. Our team includes a group of dedicated staff members and board members committed to improving the quality of life for all residents of Halton. We value independence, community accountability, knowledge-based action, citizen participation, inclusiveness, and empowerment. We believe social development and social change are essential for a thriving community.

Our Mission

Through research, community development, planning, and promoting volunteerism, Community Development Halton strives to improve the quality of life for all residents of Halton.

 Community Development Halton (CDH) is a nonprofit organization that provides a research and development function that serves community nonprofit agencies, municipal and regional government, and local grass roots organizations concerned with building vibrant and inclusive communities where all people prosper. CDH builds community capacity, individual leaders, and innovative organizations through community-based research, needs identification, education, and training, volunteerism, community engagement, age-friendly initiatives, and policy analysis for systems change.

CDH is committed to social development as a desired state of community well-being and social change as a continual process towards achieving and sustaining social development for everyone in the community. CDH shall endeavor to accomplish this purpose by:

  • identifying community needs

  • developing community awareness of identified trends and needs

  • facilitating and supporting community response to identified trends and needs

  • facilitating communication and coordinated planning between members of the community, local organizations and governments to develop ways to address these needs

  • advocating for change

CDH values: community, volunteerism, diversity, equity, and social justice. The principles underlying our work are independence, community accountability, knowledge-based action, citizen participation, inclusiveness, and empowerment.
