Effective Boards do not Happen by Accident

 Registration is closed for this event
Board Recruitment and Orientation. This workshop is intended for Board members and senior staff in nonprofit organizations and grassroots groups.

Finding, orienting and supporting effective people to serve on your Board of Directors is a critical step in building a Board that can provide the strategic leadership and vision needed to navigate today’s uncertainties and rapid change.

Participants will come away able to:
• critically assess current recruitment and screening processes with a view to enhancing the organization’s ability to recruit an effective Board;
• design an orientation process that ensures Board members, current and incoming, have the knowledge they need to be effective around the Board table, and;
• understand the necessity for Board “orientation” to transform into year-round “capacity-building” processes to meet the demands of a constantly-shifting environment.

Facilitator: JODY ORR, The Chrysalis Group, has an extensive background working in and with the nonprofit sector. She has a Master’s degree in Sociology and is a founding principal in an organizational and community development consulting firm. Jody worked for 17 years in the nonprofit sector and has since striking out on her own supported nonprofits, big and small, with a major emphasis on building capacity in a variety of areas, including effective governance. She was the lead staff person in two large voluntary social planning organizations and a major United Way, has been a Board member and President of a variety of nonprofits. She also is the Coordinator of the Halton Nonprofit Network.

This workshop is intended for Board members and senior staff in nonprofit organizations and grassroots groups.
