Fill your toolbox with ideas and tactics on organizational effectiveness through our educational workshop series. In collaboration with Volunteer Halton, the Town of Halton Hills is providing a series of workshops from a selection of industry experts. The series will include a format of self-driven courses and facilitator led presentations to meet your organizational needs. 

Orientation, Training and Supervision of Volunteers

What are the core components you should be training your volunteers on? What policies and legislation should volunteers know? We will keep it practical in this workshop by arming you with the tools on the who, what and how of orientation and training. 

Be the Leader your Volunteers need!  We will discuss leadership styles and the best ways to provide the best volunteer experience for your volunteers. The workshop will cover core concepts around the structures and supports needed to offer meaningful and impactful opportunities and experiences.

Who is Presenting?

Heather Johnson has been working within the not-for-profit sector since 2003 and has held a variety of roles.  Her current role as the Director, Volunteer Halton, sees her responsible for the development and delivery of robust education programs, assisting community members secure meaningful volunteer roles, supporting non-profits and charities in the Region, and advocating for the volunteer engagement profession. 

 

Heather Kaufmann has been working in the sports and recreation field since 2000. She has an extensive background in recreation management, leadership and problem solving. Although a thorough and analytical problem solver with broad experience in diverse environments, she has collaborated to manage collaborative projects and programs centralized around volunteers. Through her leadership in her municipal role, she has helped many organizations create, develop and manage their volunteer programs and opportunities. Having worked for 3 municipalities, her accomplishments include engaging key partnerships and stakeholders to develop and implement a municipal and regional recreation master plans, youth and culture strategies, and tourism development. She has extensive work in building community partnerships for capital projects including sponsorship, governance, community planning, event execution, agreement management and policy development. Currently, she enjoys utilizing her skill set and passion as the Town of Halton Hills Community Development Supervisor of Volunteer and Group Support. Heather is very passionate about volunteerism and knows leading volunteers is a unique deal. Volunteerism is at the foundation of many of the work in the community and if you share the same passion that’s when amazing things happen.

Kathleen Dennis has been working in the Recreation and Parks field for 16 years starting as a Lifeguard/swim instructor at 16 years old. Over the years, she has gained knowledge and experience in Aquatics, Active Living, and working alongside older adults. Kathleen is now leading the Town of Halton Hills Volunteer Management Program. She has worked alongside paid staff, board members and volunteers of many diverse program areas. She has many years of experience in developing and implementing policies and procedures for different disciplines within the recreation world. Kathleen sees volunteers as our future and is passionate about having volunteerism in the community. She hopes to share this passion with you and to inspire you to see what happens when we get volunteers involved.
