Tell us your name and the name of the project or initiative you are involved with.

My name is Payge Lucas and I am with The Roxy Centre.

“This is important to me because I see the needs of the people,”

What have you most loved and appreciated about the community project/initiative that you are involved in?

I love that the Roxy has a sense of family. We all work together for a common goal.

What is your connection to the project/initiative, and why is it so important to you?

I am the Director of the Roxy Centre. This is important to me because I see the needs of the people. There are many people in Acton with disabilities and people who need support. Coming together for a common goal of "loving the community by providing value and connection".

“To keep up with that pace we would really like to attract a larger volunteers base,”

There is lots going on at the Roxy Centre. There is a budgeting course, community dinners and lunches, the Acton Community Kitchen, Food for Life, the Marriage Course, and ArtHouse is providing free children's programing.

What is happening through the project/initiative that you would like to see more of?

It would be great to see more life skills courses and even more use of the kitchen with classes.

What would you like to see happen next for the project/initiative?

The activities and outreach are really blossoming. To keep up with that pace we would really like to attract a larger volunteers base. We have amazing volunteers who step up to operate some great opportunities but would like to see us have a larger volunteer base to help with the load. Additional funding for another staff to help manage the growing demand of sometimes complicated support for community members would also be great.

“I think we would be able to have more "manpower" to help those in need, and there would be less of a reliance on one person or organization,”

What would you want or need from the community to make your next steps successful?

Really if we can attract more volunteers from the Acton community to come and spend some time helping it would help us to continue to grow our vision of providing a multifunctional and people-oriented space designed to provide value and connection to people living in Acton.

If all those good things happened, what could be made possible in our community that wasn’t possible before?

I think we would be able to have more "manpower" to help those in need, and there would be less of a reliance on one person or organization. We should be working all together for the community, why run four of the same program when we could have one really good one together?
