Each year we dedicate a special time to honour citizens who volunteer their time and talents to worthy causes across our country, region and the local community. We want to acknowledge the incredible efforts of volunteers across Halton and say THANK YOU. National Volunteer Week is when we can all take time to recognize volunteers and celebrate the power of volunteerism in our community. Our theme for National Volunteer Week 2018 is Celebrating the Value of Volunteering – Building CONFIDENCE, CONNECTIONS, and COMMUNITY.

Volunteer Halton is privileged to witness like-minded individuals and groups who identify the need and move into action. Volunteers are everyday individuals who answer the call for change. Many come together as strangers, connect through a cause, and end up with lasting friendships. Volunteer Halton recognizes the wonderful volunteers who come from different backgrounds and experiences from all ages to be the roots of strong communities. ~~~ Ann Coburn – Director, Volunteer Halton.

Volunteers reach out beyond themselves, to engage in kindness and caring for others. People from all walks of life engage in volunteerism for a variety of reasons some of which are: to tackle the issues of poverty, the environment, homelessness, to promote social inclusion, and most importantly, to be the voice and hands of compassion and hope.

Canadians have a rich history of volunteering and community involvement. The work of the volunteer is an essential work. National Volunteer Week pays tribute to the millions of Canadian volunteers who donate their time and energy.

National Volunteer Week is the biggest celebration of volunteers and voluntarism Canada has and Volunteer Canada is taking the lead on the celebrations every year. National Volunteer Week campaigns were developed to help organizations and individuals from coast to coast to coast deliver their own volunteer week celebrations.

Upcoming National Volunteer Week dates:

April 15 – 21, 2018           April 7 – 13, 2019
