In advance of the 2024 Provincial budget, Volunteer Halton endorses the Ontario Nonprofit Network’s pre-budget submission to invest and unleash the sector’s full potential to serve Ontarians. In this submission, we expand on their recommendations to reinforce the essential
role of volunteerism in our Province. We are asking the Provincial Government to:
1. Invest in volunteer centres to deliver on a Provincial Action & Recovery Strategy for Volunteerism and reduce policy barriers to enable volunteerism.
2. Address the non-profit human resources crisis, especially for volunteer management capacity, through a sector-wide labour force strategy and workforce development plan.
3. Enable a whole-of-government approach for Ontario’s 58,000 nonprofits and charities by creating a “home in government” for the sector including a secretariate for volunteerism.
